Tiff and I just wanted to thank everyone that prayed for the flooding situation in Rio Branco.  The flooding has gone down, and as far as we know, all of the Project Rescue families are back in their houses.  Project Rescue has been up and running for about a month now, and the family that was staying there has been able to rebuild their house and move back.

We are hoping that we will be able to return to Brazil on June 7.  Please pray with us that we could be at 100% of our needed monthly support by the time we return, if it is God’s will for us to return at that time.  We are currently at 86%, but could be up over 90% depending on budget decisions of some of our supporting churches.  Thanks for praying and giving.

We found out that all of our families have been flooded out of their homes and are staying in schools and temporary shelters.  Pray for Sandra and Rodrigo as they visit the shelters, and find ways to help.

Dear friends,

A few things to pray for.  In the Philippines, on the island of Leyte there are still about 1000 people missing after the mudslides.  I spent about 8 years of my childhood on that island.  I have not heard yet if anyone I know has been affected.

Rio Branco, the city where we live in Brazil, is currently experiencing flooding again.  About this time every year the river rises, and floods the low-lying areas (where most of our Project Rescue families live).  Rain continues to fall in buckets.  Over 6,000 families (30,000 people) have been forced to leave their homes, and are temporarily sheltered in public facilities and 20 schools.  At over 16 meters, the Rio Acre river is at the third highest level in 30 years.

Project Rescue re-opened for the new year on Feb. 6.  When none of our 22 kids showed up, our staff decided to drive over to their bairro (neighborhood).  That was when they realized that they “were all in the water” as Sandra put it.  They were stranded in their houses – little island shacks on stilts.  With their bairro being one of the worst hit areas, the houses are now filling with water, and the families have been forced to evacuate.  Sandra, Rodrigo and the Project Rescue volunteers decided to spend their time helping families move to shelters.  One family, which includes Sebastiana, Josué, and Paulo, is staying at the Project Rescue facility.  Maybe we should change the name of our ministry to “Noah’s Ark.

Several of the churches that we are connected with there have turned into temporary shelters, with many of the members being flooded out of their homes.

Pray for physical safety, protection from disease, and protection from thieves who love to steal power lines and roof tiles.  Pray that God would be glorified through this, and that many would come to know the One who sent the flood.
